TALK TO STRANGERS? IS THIS OLD SCHOOL MLM RECRUITING

stranger_dangerQuick question. Do you think that talking straight to a stranger is an old school MLM recruiting method that still work today?

If yes, are you scared when it comes to do it? You know what I’m talking about here… that 3 foot rule which say that everyone around you is a prospect?

Well obviously “yes” is the answer. The 3 foot rule is a great way to recruit people. BUT… There is a huge one here… There is steps to do it the proper way so your new prospect don’t run from you as fast as they can. Hope you are ready to recruit more because here are those steps.

STEP 1 ON HOW TO TALK TO A STRANGER

The very very first step is not with your mouth or a smile at your new prospect. No, the first step is between your 2 ears. Like I asked above, are you scared to… Most of the people I know are scared to death to disturb others. So in this part of the situation you need to believe that you aren’t disturbing anyone. Don’t tell me you never spoke before to a stranger in your life! Do you always feel you are annoying them? Hope not! We are talking to a lot of new people in our life and we never stopped breathing and we never had rocks thrown at us! Well you have to feel the same when it’s time to talk about your business.

But even before that do you have the belief about what your product/services/opportunity can do for a person THAT IS LOOKING FOR IT? Are you sure in YOUR GUTS, not your head, that you have the right “one of the above” for yourself and for them. If not you might wanna read my other post about it here (build your belief) If you are sure that you have the right thing for them then now you can go to step 2.

STEP 2: CREATING CURIOSITY

This step consist on intriguing the person that is in front of you. There is the active way, and the passive one. Let’s talk first of the passive one which consist about attracting the conversation instead of starting it. How can you do that? Simple wear a shirt of your MLM company, wear your pin level if you have one, for those who have a branded credit card, use it when you pay, and the best way is still to use/consume your product in front of someone. That will make them ask question.

But wait!!!! I can see you here starting to talk about what it is… and your company is so beautiful…. and the complan is….. and your upline is soo……. and and and… stop right now please!!!! And let the magic occur. We will see it in the next step but let’s talk about the active way now.

F.O.R.M.The active way is also simple but it takes a bit of guts to do it. Just start a normal conversation with him. The best way is to make a little compliment to him/her about Ex: her shoe, his tie, watch, car, etc… You can also talk about what he/she is doing at the very moment. Like, if the waiter is running all over the place at a restaurant, you could say: ” Hey, busy evening isn’t it?”And then start the F.O.R.M. formula if it’s the proper time. (Again if you don’t know that one, you can read about it in this article I wrote: HOW TO USE THE F.O.R.M. IN NETWORK MARKETING.) If it’s not the proper time to talk F.O.R.M., then follow by asking a question like:

-Hey man, I know that you have to run to an other table but just before you leave, I really liked the way you served us/me tonight, and I’m just curious, would you be open to a side project  if it didn’t interfere with what you are currently doing?
-(If you are talking with him since a while) By the way, Just curious, do you keep your options open in anyway when it comes to make more money?

Think you get the picture here! Easy simple question that will help you to qualify your prospect. If he say no, just move on saying something like: “Cool man, thanks for everything and have a great day”!

Here is where almost every teaching stops. But I’ve learn the other part of this 4 Steps formula from a good friend and a big top earner in MLM profession Ray Higdon, you can also follow him for a tons of good advices. So let’s keep up with the step 3

JUST CLARIFY WHEN YOU TALK TO STRANGERS

Remember that I asked you to let the magic happen if you were doing the passive way of this old school MLM technique. Well before starting to drop all the info you have about everything you know of your company, you better qualify that prospect first. Just take back what he said and turn it into a question.

Ex:
Him: Hey what that new brand of coffee?
You: Oh you never seen that brand before?
Him: No!
You: Are you a big coffee drinker? What do you prefer as a coffee? (always collect the most answer you can)

or

Him: What’s that slogan on your shirt?
You: You never heard of “repeat your slogan there” before?
Him: No at all!
You: What do you think is the meaning of it? Why did catch your attention in it?

If you are in the active way (after listening to the answer of the active question in step 2) you can always keep up with an other question like: “oh really you are, well why would you be open to “work from home/gain extra money/make an extra income”? Not only you will make him comfortable because you aren’t pitch him anything but you will now know his “why” which you will be able to expand with him one other day.

FINAL STEP: LEAVE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE… WITH THEIR INFO

Run!!!It might sound weird but YES, leave as soon as possible. This step is, what I think, the most important step of them all. Even in warm market. We all know that it’s a numbers game and that 99% of the people don’t talk to enough other people! But for me the biggest mistake that people do when it comes to MLM Recruiting is this one: THEY ARE TALKING TOO MUCH! So the step 4 is to break in communication and the simple way to do it is by saying that you have something to do and that you have to go, like:

– “Oh gosh, didn’t see the time goes! Have to be on a conference call in 5 minutes, but give me your number and email and I’ll send you some information when I’ll get back to my office/home tonight.”

Or you can use something like:

– “Oh really, nice like that a lot! Look I’m sorry I really got to go but let me grab your info and we will keep in touch later and chat more!”

The real reason why professional use the break in communication technique is because they know that the less you say with your mouth the more they will go see the tool you will push them to! Use your video presentation, your upline phone calls, anything that you can make your prospect watch/listen that is not your voice. This way, your prospect will see that it’s easy, that you don’t have to be a Dr. or a dietitian or else to do this side project.
